Human Growth Hormone What is Human Growth Hormone (HGH)?
Human Growth Hormone (HGH or hGH) is the most abundant hormone produced by the pituitary gland. HGH stimulates cell growth and reproduction in humans. It is a 191-amino acid, single-chain polypeptide hormone. HGH is synthesized, stored, and secreted by somatotroph cells within the anterior pituitary gland located in the center of the brain. Somatotrophin refers to the growth hormone produced natively in animals, whereas the term somatropin refers to growth hormone produced by recombinant DNA technology. Growth Hormone is known to be critical for tissue repair, muscle growth, healing, brain function, physical and mental health, bone strength, energy and metabolism. It is also responsible for vitality, energy, and all of the health benefits that are associated with youth. Growth hormone has a profound effect on all the cells of the body, more than any other hormone because it is the cell generator. HGH is the "master hormone" controlling many organs and body functions and is directly responsible for stimulating tissue repair, cell replacement, brain functions, and enzyme function. HGH promotes growth in children and plays an important role in adult metabolism. As we age, the body secretes decreasing amounts of human growth hormone. After the age of 30, HGH levels drop off at about 14% each decade. Low levels of HGH are associated with aging and as HGH levels drop, the aging process accelerates. Research indicates that by increasing the natural amount of HGH in the system, the body may be able to reverse some symptoms associated with aging, like weight gain, loss of lean muscle, wrinkles, bone density, sexual drive and more.
